Ranbir Kapoor Says Rishi Kapoor Called His Film Choices ‘Bakwas’
Ranbir Kapoor has said that his father, the late Rishi Kapoor, used to call his choice in movies as ‘bakwas’. Ranbir has two movies scheduled to be released soon: Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera and Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmasttra Part One: Shiva. Asked if Rishi had seen parts of Shamshera, Ranbir told a news conference: “Papa ne Karan ke saath Agneepath mein kaam kiya tha (My father worked with Karan on Agneepath). That movie gave him a lot of fame and he was very happy with the impact of the movie. When I signed this movie, he (Rishi) was very happy because he was always complaining about my movie choices.”
Ranbir added, “Teri ekdum bakwaas hain’s movie choices. Tu aisi film banata hai (Your movie choices are completely worthless. You make such movies), which don’t reach the masses.” Unfortunately, he hadn’t seen the trailer or the movie poster, but I know he’s out there somewhere, proud and smiling at me.”
Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera is set in the fictional city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned and tortured by a ruthless overbearing general. Ranbir plays the leader of the tribe who fights against the general, while Sanjay Dutt plays the role of General Shudh Singh in the film. Shamshera, also starring Vaani Kapoor, will open in theaters on July 22.
Speaking about the film, Ranbir had told PTI in a recent interview, “It’s not easy to play a larger-than-life character as it involves a lot of responsibilities. Also, I have two characters in this film…one is the Shamshera’s character, who plays the father and son, Balli, who had to be distinctly different from each other. I hope people appreciate my first attempt at this genre.”
